Burlington Performing Arts Centre announces its first executive director

BURLINGTON, ON –The Burlington Theatre Board is pleased to announce that Brenda Heatherington is the first executive director for the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. She begins her new role in May 2010.

Heatherington comes to Burlington from The Arden Theatre in St. Albert, a community beside Edmonton. She began working for The Arden Theatre in 1992, and currently oversees the direction of the theatre. She has also served as programming director for the past 13 years with the Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival in St. Albert.

  “The Burlington Theatre Board, after extensive research and review, is very pleased to have Brenda as our founding executive director,” said board chair Keith Strong. “Brenda brings much vibrancy, experience and community commitment to the Burlington Performing Arts Centre and to the Burlington community.”

Heatherington has served as vice-president of the Canadian Arts Presenting Association, and is a member of the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta, the Western Arts Alliance, and the International Association of Performing Arts for Young Audiences. She is also past chair of the Canadian Children’s Festival Association.

The Burlington Performing Arts Centre, when completed in the fall of 2011, will be an excellent venue for theatre productions, community and group presentations, civic events, receptions and exhibitions. A LEED-certified building (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), it is destined to be Ontario’s first stand-alone green performing arts centre.
