The Ones To Watch – Four Emerging Local Artists You Need To Hear

Miles from Nowhere:
Based in Hamilton, ON, Canada, Miles Evans-Branagh has been playing piano since the age of five. Being heavily influenced by his musician father, Miles has grown up playing drums, guitar, bass, and vocals, with keyboard being his main instrument. Currently performing under the ‘miles from nowhere.’ banner, Miles has been writing and performing a blend of soul, folk, and pop music for nearly a decade with the intention of offering a modern take on soul/r&b music. At just 22 years old, 'miles from nowhere.' has been able to gather a great deal of playing experience. From playing at Hamilton Place at the age of 13, to performing as ‘Jerry Lee Lewis’ for the ‘Million Dollar Tribute’ across the province, as well as playing extensively in bars and clubs across southern Ontario, Miles has proven his versatility by gaining experience in various aspects of musical performance. Most recently with his contribution to the live house band for the ‘Anytime with Eric Johnston’ talk show as the keyboardist of ‘Rhythm Express.’ Miles has also been touring Ontario & Quebec with the Maple Blues Award winning Spencer MacKenzie Band, and competed with that band in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in both 2016 & 2017. With his debut EP set to be released in 2018, and with his first single ‘Nobody Is Everybody’, set to be released soon, fans and fellow musicians have praised his “old soul” style. Miles is excited to finally be able to share his music with the world.

Liam Koal:
My name is Liam Koal, I’m 17 years old from Burlington Ontario. I grew up always being surrounded by music which sparked my love of blues, soul, and all other genres. I just want to perform and have people remember the name Koal.

High Tide:
High Tide is Emma Whale, a singer-songwriter from Burlington.  She has been learning and playing music from a very young age with her principle instruments being piano, guitar, and voice. She has performed at many events, including the Burlington Sound of Music Festival, the Aldershot Honours Society, KaBOOM Bolus Park restoration project, and YMCA Donor Recognition event. “I enjoy writing acoustic music about my life, but hope to branch out into more complex arrangements as I learn more about music production. I hope you like what you hear!”
