The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is thrilled to offer FREE student workshops so the conversation that first starts in the theatre can be further developed in the classroom and beyond. All workshops are FREE with the
purchase of a student ticket to the accompanying performance and will be facilitated in your school. No need for additional busing.

HIP HOP DANCE WORKSHOP – FREE with I.aM.mE tickets
Challenge your students to get up and move, lock, pop, krump or whatever the beat dictates! Workshop led by a local professional hip hop instructor.
BLACK HISTORY WORKSHOP – FREE with Spirit of Harriet Tubman tickets
Expand your students awareness of Canadian Black History and Ontario’s connection to liberating slaves from the south. A partnership with the Halton Black History Awareness Society.
FIRST NATIONS CULTURE WORKSHOPS – Free with The Honouring tickets
Choose a workshop that most suits your students’ needs:
a) Movement & Music Workshop – Interactive introduction to Haudenosaunee social dances and music
b) Visual Art Workshop - Craft your own Iroquois style flatpurse with clay beads
a) Indigenous Issues – Overview of residential schools, reserves, language revitalization, stereotypes and racism
b) Dance & Music Workshop – Interactive introduction to some of dance styles that are represented in
“The Honouring.” A partnership with the Woodland Cultural Centre.
FREE DIVERSITY AWARENESS WORKSHOP – Free with Jabber tickets
School is hard enough, but adding a new culture, language and religion and you have a much more complex transition. This insightful discussion/workshop explores the everyday challenges of a newcomer to Canada.
