CLIMATE CHANGE/ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP STUDENT WORKSHOP (Grade 9-12)
November 2017 – FREE with purchase of Sea Sick tickets Student will engage in topics of climate change, biodiversity and sustainability of our planet and their role in making the world a better place.

SPOKEN WORD STUDENT WORKSHOP (GRADES 6-8 and 9-12)
November 2017 – FREE with purchase of Shane Koyzcan tickets With the guidance of slam poetry professionals, students explore the power of spoken word poetry and the different ways of self-expression.

CIRCUS CURIOSITIES STUDENT WORKSHOP (GRADES 4-8 and 9-12)
March 2018 – FREE with purchase of Vox Pop tickets This workshop explores the myriad of circus curiosities in a fun and highly interactive manner.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS/STEWARDSHIP STUDENT WORKSHOP (GRADES 2-6)
April 2018 – FREE with purchase of Land of Trash tickets Student will engage in topics of stewardship of our planet and their role in making the world a better place.

ArtDAZE! Performance & Visual Arts Student Workshop (Grades 4-8)
Monday, October 23, 2017 – Pinocchio performance + Visual Arts Workshop
Tuesday, March 27, 2018 – Vox Pop performance + Visual Arts Workshop This experience starts with a live theatre performance followed by a short walk to The Art Gallery of Burlington for a tour of the galleries, a bring-your-own-lunch and a full visual arts workshop based on the themes of the performance.

ALL ArtDAZE experiences ARE:

Theatre Industry Mentorship Program for Secondary Students

The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is dedicated to supporting our next generation of theatre industry professionals. Our Theatre Industry Mentorship Program is specially designed to offer secondary students opportunities to explore the various careers in the theatre industry. This program is an excellent Experiential Learning and Reach Ahead opportunity for Arts & Culture SHSM students. Many of the following opportunities can be considered advance training and be applied towards an SHSM Certification.

CO-OPERATIVE PLACEMENT: BACK OF HOUSE TECHNICAL PRODUCTION
Offered 1st & 2nd Semester

A hands-on experience for students interested in working backstage in Technical Services. The Centre’s Technical Staff will mentor the successful candidate and provide training in the myriad of production duties.

CAREER DAY – LIFE IN THE THEATRE INDUSTRY
Tuesday, October 17, 2017 ǀ Cost: $20.00 per student | All day

Through interactive workshops and demonstrations students explore the many diverse careers available in the theatre industry. Our popular Post-Secondary Marketplace provides one-on-one access to various colleges and universities offering performance and production related theatre courses. This much anticipated event is a fantastic Reach Ahead opportunity for students looking for a career pathway in the theatre.

TECHNICAL WORKSHOP: ART AND SCIENCE OF LIGHTING DESIGN
Wednesday, December 6, 2017 ǀ Cost: $15.00 per student | 3 hours

An experiential learning opportunity for students interested in learning more about the functions of stage lighting, composition, colour theatre and lighting fixtures. Certificate of completion is provided and the workshop can be applied towards an Arts & Culture SHSM certification.

TECHNICAL WORKSHOP: THE ART AND SCIENCE OF SOUND DESIGN
Wednesday, March 7, 2018 ǀ Cost: $15.00 per student | 3 hours

This workshop is another experiential learning opportunity that deconstructs the elements of sound in a theatrical scene by exploring microphone types, sound cues, effects and mixing. Certificate of completion is provided and the workshop can be applied towards an Arts & Culture SHSM certification.

FACILITY TOURS
Date: Upon Request | Cost: $5 per student | Minimum of 8 students per tour

Not your every day tour... this is an exceptional opportunity to experience everything from the bowels of the orchestra pit to the heights of the fly tower and all the rigging, lights and sound switches in between. Technical Services Staff will escort students throughout the venue and its two performing facilities providing a rare glimpse into the backstage, technical world of working in the future.

SHADOW A PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN FOR A DAY
Date: Various | Cost: No Charge (1 student per show)

Book your student an opportunity to shadow one of our Technical Production members as they load-in, set-up, sound-check, rehearse and start a professional theatrical performance. This immersive experience could be a chance of a life-time that in turn sparks a life-time passion for the theatre industry.
