Kaha:wi Dance Theatre brings history to life in this homage to First Nations warriors of the War of 1812.  Students have the opportunity to understand the complexity of war through the experiential lens of the First Nations who participated as allies to Britain and helped keep Canada whole.  Kaha:wi means “to carry” in the Mohawk language and is the traditional name for Artistic Director Santee Smith’s family.  KDT carries First Nations culture through dance, theatre, music and design in this important piece that is a must-see for all students.

Curriculum Connections:

  • Aboriginal dances that express cultural identity
  • Dance to communicate social/historical issues
  • Dance that reflects traditions of diverse communities
