I would like to welcome everyone to the 2013-2014 season at The Burlington Performing Arts Centre. As the new Executive Director, I
would like to thank the former Director, Brenda Heatherington, for programming such an eclectic and exciting season of performances.
We are already seeing significant growth in ticket sales as we build on
the momentum of last season. With over 40 performances scheduled, there is truly something for everyone. Balancing a season with well-
known artists like Bruce Cockburn, Jesse Cook, Joel Plaskett, Leahy
and the many other stars in our season, with new and exciting
performers like the theatre production One, hip hop dance artists Bboyizm, and the wonderful children’s theatre company Tout à Trac performing Pinocchio, is a way to keep our programming exciting,
current and vital. Introducing new performers to a community is some
of the most important work that we can do as programmers.
To echo what Brenda said in the season brochure, I encourage you to take a chance on some of the artists that may not be as familiar to you. By taking a chance, a whole new world of entertainment will be
opened to you.
I think that Burlington can be extremely proud of both the building and
the programming of The Burlington Performing Arts Centre. The architects Diamond Schmitt have designed a world class facility that proudly puts us in the same company as the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Maison symphonique de Montréal, and the recently opened $700 million new Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. We truly have a world-class season in a world-class facility.
I look forward to meeting many of you at our performances throughout the season. I am always more than happy to interact with the audience and hear your feedback and suggestions for future performers.
