World-Renowned Soprano Returns to Her Native Burlington
BURLINGTON, Ont. – Brenda Heatherington, Executive Director of The Burlington Performing Arts Centre announced in a statement today that acclaimed Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka will grace the stage of The Centre’s Main Theatre on November 10.
Pieczonka, who grew up in Burlington, has been praised for the sheer beauty of her voice and her deeply compelling stage presence. Joining Pieczonka for this performance is Mezzo-Soprano Laura Tucker.
“Adrianne is one of the best sopranos in the world,” said Heatherington. “I encourage every lover of great music to not miss this marvellous performance.”
In 2010, Pieczonka won a Juno Award® for Best Classical Vocal Album and an Opera Award at the BBC Music Magazine Awards. She was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2008 and the prestigious title of Kammersängerin was bestowed upon her by the Austrian government in 2007 for her outstanding contribution to the Vienna State Opera. In 2012, Pieczonka will sing the title role in Tosca with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto.
The Burlington Civic Chorale has been invited to perform a number of pieces as well as accompany Pieczonka on “Ride of the Chariot” by William Henry Smith.
