The Burlington Performing Arts Centre Celebrates Culture Days with a Special Open House Featuring Burlington Music Students
BURLINGTON, Ont. – Brenda Heatherington, Executive Director of the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, and representatives from the Keys to the Future campaign invites the Burlington community to a special open house on Sunday, October 2, which celebrates Culture Days as well as a special group of music students. Culture Days is a national volunteer movement to raise awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in arts and culture.
Earlier this year, music students from the Burlington area participated in two play-a-thons which raised almost $9000 toward the Keys to the Future campaign. Through various community fundraising, the campaign raised the funds to purchase the nine foot Shigeru Kawai concert grand piano for The Centre. As a special thank you, the music students will be the first to play the concert grand piano on the stage of The Centre’s Main Theatre during the Culture Days open House on Sunday, October 2.
“It is through the efforts of dedicated people like these students that The Centre now has this incredible piano,” said Heatherington. “It is only fitting that the first people to play it will be those who helped purchase it.”
The event features performances by students of approximately 20 local music teachers. There will be vocalists, flute and saxophone players, violinists, cellists and many pianists performing in The Centre’s Main and Community Studio theatres. Members from the Keys to the Future committee will be there to explain the project. This Free event is scheduled to run from noon to approximately 4:30 p.m.
The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is Burlington’s newest architectural and urban design landmark. Built to Leadership in Environmental Design (LEED) principles, The Centre is poised to become the only freestanding green performing arts centre in Canada.
