DON’T MISS THE BURLINGTON PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE’S FAMILY DAY
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 27 11:30 – 5P.M.

The Burlington Performing Art Centre kicks off a week-long celebration of its official opening with a very special gathering of performers at The Centre’s Family Day on Sunday, November 27.
An extraordinary gathering of artists fills all three performances spaces at The Centre with dance in The Main Theatre, music and marionettes in The Community Studio Theatre while the Family Lobby hosts art stations, stilt walkers and exceptional face painting like you’ve never seen before.
In The Main Theatre, Sursaut presents At Nightfall, a visually stunning story of a shoemaker who discovers what joys exist outside his workshop. Founded in 1985, the Sursaut Dance Company is devoted to the creation, production and dissemination of dance shows for young and family audiences. Sursaut's joyful and touching creations thrill spectators everywhere they are presented. Show times are 12:30 and 2:30 pm. Tickets $25 adults/$15 youth.

The Cashore Marionettes redefine the art of puppetry in The Community Studio Theatre with their moving and humorous performance of Simple Gifts. Through a combination of virtuoso manipulation, beautiful music, theatrical illusion and artistic insight, the original vignettes presented in Simple Gifts provide an entertaining and sensitive vision of what it is to be human. The marionettes are engineering marvels and the quality of movement is extraordinary. Show times are 12:00 and 3:00 pm. Tickets $25 adults/$15 youth.
The spacious Family Lobby lives up to its name on Family Day. A collection of the very best in art adventures include:
- Kromatik: There are face painters and then there is Kromatik. You will never see face painting as unique as these! Nathalie Simard will be on-site herself throughout the day. Nathalie is the make-up designer for Cirque du Soleil's most recent production, "Totem"
- Kristi Heath: Ever see an 8 foot Mountie? How about an 8 foot ballerina, on point shoes!! Kristi will be towering over you with a multitude of characters! Don't miss her, though it would be very hard to!
- Granny Garbanzo: The loving wonderful Granny Garbanzo is a walking bundle of joy. This character is featured on the Gemini-award winning children's show "The Big Comfy Couch" which has been shown on TV all over the world for over 15 years.
Art instructors from Burlington Art Centre will invite you to unleash your inner artist:
- Create your very own one of a kind art image in watercolours. Surprise yourself. No experience or ability required. You will take home a mono-print created using watercolour crayons/paint and traditional printing techniques.
- Using mixed media supplies, we will help you to design your own 2 ½ x 3 ½ “calling card” that you can keep, trade or display.
- Get twisted; create your own theatre mask pin. Using simple materials like pipe cleaners and other decorative elements, design a mask that will bring a smile to the recipient and the creator.
This incredible selection of all-ages entertainers is available for one-day only. See one performance or buy tickets to both shows! Lobby entertainment and activities are FREE. Bring everyone in your family to this fun-filled afternoon of theatre, dance, art and music.
