POSITION – DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

The Burlington Performing Arts Centre provides an excellent venue to showcase the world’s top talent and provides a gathering place for the community of Burlington and surrounding areas. The Centre also hosts conferences and community events. The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is located at the corner of Elgin and Locust streets in downtown Burlington.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Manager of Marketing & Development, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing the development strategy for The Burlington Performing Arts Centre, achieving the financial targets and engaging sponsors in ongoing sponsorship opportunities. This includes leveraging key relationships and contacts to ensure revenue goals are met.
PROFILE:
We are looking for a dynamic professional with an extensive background in sponsorship and development. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills both written and verbal. Incumbent will be a creative thinker and a strong team player.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement a long-term development strategy that will maximize operational revenue, enhance sponsorship opportunities, manage fundraising accounts and secure new granting revenue sources
- Assist in the development of a 3-year development plan
- Monitor fundraising and sponsorship opportunities and modify plans as required
- Assist with the development of corporate community investment and corporate sponsorship
- Educate staff and volunteers of their role in resource development and how to be effective ambassadors of the program
- Responsible for all research, proposal writing and project completion reports
- Accurate accounting of all sponsorship income and its sources
- Initiate, build and maintain relationships between The Centre and its stakeholders
- In collaboration with the marketing team, prepare and manage the timelines and content for proposals and provide potential sponsors with appropriate, well-researched and customized opportunities
- Contribute to the development of a communications and marketing plan by providing relevant sponsor-centered information and suggestions
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, arts or completion of Arts and Cultural Management/Public Relations College program and must have a minimum of three years’ experience working with Performing Arts development and sponsorship. This individual must have excellent proven writing, analytical and verbal communication skills and must be interested in a career in development with a focus on sponsorship opportunities and building partnerships. Experience with fundraising software and website content management systems is an asset.
SKILLS:
- Organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to function either independently or as an active team member
- Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
- Microsoft Office experience
- Donor management software experience an asset
- Manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity
HOURS OF WORK:
Standard hours of work will be 80 hours bi-weekly. There will be requirements to work flex time with evening and weekend work, or as required by the Manager, Marketing & Development.
SALARY RANGE:
Under review. In addition there is a generous and comprehensive benefit package.
